Lift Every Voice . . . and E-mail Essence Magazine

You’ve guessed it.  I like “The Negro National Anthem” as you could probably tell from my use of parts of the song for 2 different blog titles.  Thank you, James Weldon Johnson and J. Rosamond Johnson.

But today’s blog isn’t about me.

In this month’s Essence, book editor Patrik Henry Bass reviewed two children’s books — We Are the Ship by Kadir Nelson and Hotlanta by Denene Millner and Mitzi Miller. He also asked people to write in with their favorite children’s book titles.  So shoot Patrik an e-mail and let him know what children’s books you love or the titles your children love.

I commend Essence for embracing children’s literature and wanting to know our thoughts about the titles and authors we love in children’s literature.  There are so many great books written for our kids that are overlooked and ignored within the mainstream so it is wonderful to have recognition within the Black community.

Lift every voice and spread the word to others.

Check back on Friday to find out what I did for Operation Teen Book Drop!
