Who is Carla Sarratt?
I freely admit that I just stole that from Jill Scott but Ms. Jill is fabulous and this was an extremely wonderful CD that I still listen to on repeat. Are you a Jilly from Philly fan like me?
Welcome to my blog! Either you found this blog while on my website or you clicked directly on to the blog.
My name is Carla Sarratt and I am a young adult author. My first book Freshman Focus is available for purchase and would make a wonderful addition to your bookshelf, if it’s not already there. You can click over to my website to read the synopsis, an excerpt, and reviews.
I am not only an author, but I am a daughter, a sister, a friend, a reader, a former teacher, a college graduate, a member of Delta Sigma Theta, a bibliophile, an art lover who can’t draw, and a woman.
I love to read which is my first love but I suppose writing books is my destiny as well. Visit me on Shelfari to see how many books outside of Sweet Valley High, Babysitters Club, and a few others that I’ve read over my lifetime.
I don’t know how it happened, but I love quotes. I have six quote sites bookmarked to use for writing and my e-mail signatures. I own African American Quotations by Richard Newman that I frequently peruse for inspiration.
As I alluded to earlier, I love music. Gospel, neo-soul, R&B, with a dash of rap to keep things lively. I count Jill Scott, Angie Stone, Vivian Green, Kirk Franklin, Donald Lawrence, and Yolanda Adams as some favorites. A new favorite is Chrisette Michelle. Her debut CD is one I can, and do, listen to on repeat with no skipping.
I am also a movie lover and the list of favorites is endless, but I’ll name ten of my favorites: Shawshank Redemption, Legally Blonde, The Color Purple, The Lion King, Roots, Remember the Titans, Little Giants, First Wives Club, Imitation of Life, and Shrek.
And of course, as much time as I spend on the computer, I am an Internet addict of the highest order because I am also a procrastinator. I love to get photos of ghetto weddings and prom dresses in my e-mail inbox. They just make me happy.
But I am a great multi-tasker so I frequently watch TV as I surf the net. My Sundays are incomplete without Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Desperate Housewives on ABC and Snapped on Oxygen which is my favorite guilty pleasure so much so that I watch the same episodes over and over. I’ve introduced friends and family to Snapped too so they can share in my fascination.
Mondays are made better with Everybody Hates Chris and The Game. I merely watch Girlfriends because it is habit at this point. Tuesdays are reserved for The Biggest Loser. Thursdays is where I get ugly with Ugly Betty. On Fridays, I tune in to the Women’s Murder Club and pretend I am a detective trying to solve crimes.
So there you have it. The 500+ word version of Who is Carla Sarratt. It’s not the definitive account, but it gives you an idea of who I am. Poet Nikki Giovanni once said, “She knows who she is because she knows who she isn’t.” Indeed.
